TAG Heuer’s latest watch will secretly elevate your golf game

.

When TAG Heuer became one of the first Swiss watchmakers to enter the smartwatch segment, it received plenty of raised eyebrows thanks to its integration of premium construction, striking design and cutting-edge technology.

The TAG Heuer Connected quickly found its way on the wrists of luxury watch wearers who weren’t afraid to try something different, but more importantly demanded the highest levels of functionality and connectivity to complement their busy lifestyles.

Today, the TAG Heuer Connected is in its third generation and has received one of its most exciting updates yet – a special Golf Edition catered to elevating every player’s swing game.

The new TAG Heuer Connected Golf Edition is the second time the Swiss watchmaker has created a watch specifically for the golfing community and the latest comes equipped with a host of golfing-specific features.

At the core of these features is TAG Heuer’s prolific Golf app, which was designed and developed entirely in-house by an expert team led by TAG Heuer CEO Frédéric Arnault.

With a few taps of the watch face, users can access up to 40,000 golf course maps from across the globe – that’s 99% of the world’s golf courses – alongside precise 3D mapping, hazards distance, shot tracking, scorecards for up to four players, pro stats and a new Driving Zone feature to appear in the Connected for the first time. Paired with a player’s smartphone, the Driving Zone feature can pinpoint the best zone for players to target based on their past rounds. Each previous tee shot will be mapped out with reliable performance indicators to help players improve their results much quicker.

According to Arnault, the latest Golf Edition is no one-trick pony either.

"Marrying form and function in a brand-new way, it offers a smooth, easy-to-use and performance-oriented digital experience not only for golf, but many sports and everyday activities as well," he says.

"Every detail has been purposefully engineered to help refine the player’s strategy, improve their accuracy and remove the guesswork so they can focus on enjoying the game, without compromising on elegance and style."

Thanks to the accompanying TAG Heuer Sports app, the watch can also support the tracking of running, cycling, walking and a wide array of fitness sessions. The beauty in the smartwatch is that it’s always receiving regular updates to its software so every Connected watch never feels outdated. With these in-built fitness apps wearers can gain detailed insights into their performance directly on the watch as well as on the mobile app. Synchronising that user data with Apple Health or Strava is also possible.

On the hardware front, the TAG Heuer Connected Golf Edition features an ultra-lightweight 45mm black titanium case paired to an exclusive matte black ceramic bezel with 18 engraved and lacquered graduations – each serving as a reference for the wearer’s performance at each hole. There’s even subtle green accents in case you forget what sport you’re playing.

Navigating through the extensive features is made easier with two pushers flanking the crown. The strap also remains functional as a special white rubber addition with green stitching and texture that resembles the surface of a golf ball. For duties off the course, TAG Heuer has thrown in a black perforated rubber alternative, which is easily interchangeable with a single clip motion.

Other worthy appointments include the watchmaker’s variations of its five custom-designed mechanical or digital-inspired watch faces with touches of emerald green matching the striking coloured accents of the case and strap. The dial itself features an ultra-legible and robust OLED touchscreen protected by scratch-resistant sapphire crystal.

To extend the Connected’s battery life, the screen alternates between active and ambient mode, but it always indicates time as you’d expect from any traditional watch. Charging is neatly handled by placing the device on a magnetic base.

As a bonus, those who want to trial TAG Heuer’s Golf app can now do so on non-TAG Heuer devices. The app is available for free to anyone on iOS and Android, so there’s no reason why you’re not swinging for bogeys.
