Roger Dubuis debuts a timepiece crafted from Pirelli race tyres

The union of two high-performance names have collided with the arrival of the Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Pirelli, a luxury timepiece that weaves Pirelli’s winning motorsport rubber into the maison’s most innovative watch strap design.

The new model continues Roger Dubuis’ impressive exploits in Hyper Horology, which merges traditional craftsmanship with today’s cutting-edge technology and the sensation of speed. Naturally, Formula One tyre maker Pirelli made for the perfect partner on this project, which aims to inject some genuine racing pedigree into the line.

Customised with a click

Innovation rather than homage continues to be at the forefront for Roger Dubuis, and this is manifested in their one click interchangeable strap, crown and bezel design. With every fraction of a second being crucial to winning a race, Roger Dubuis took this notion of a rapid pit stop and applied it to the Excalibur Spider Pirelli.

The extremely customisable timepiece utilises innovative locking technology, which emphasises the impeccable clicking sensation on the strap. This same Quick Release System is featured on the strap and crown to ensure a precise position alignment that fixes the clock with one click. Once the sound is heard, the watch is fully secured and ready to take on any rat-race in the real world.

Skeleton at heart

Helping to drive the Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Pirelli is the Swiss watchmaker’s first automatic skeleton movement, which delivers hour and minute functions alongside a 60-hour power reserve. The calibre is entirely viewable through the lightweight 45-millimetre black DLC titanium case, which bears the inimitable Roger Dubuis star, accompanied by a micro-rotor at 11 o’clock and internal components finished entirely by hand at the Roger Dubuis Manufacture in Geneva.

Strapping design made for victory

The speed of tyre changes in motorsports is paramount to victory. To mimic this, Roger Dubuis has created three additional strap kits in red, white or blue. These are limited to 88 kits per colourway and take full advantage of the timepiece’s Quick Release System to switch out the standard Pirelli black rubber strap for something with a pop of colour. If that’s not enough detail, the inner side of the straps also feature the recognisable Pirelli Cinturato Intermediate pattern.
