Eight stunning luxury seaside hotels in Oregon
There is something very appealing to the explorer within each of us when it comes to contemplating a trip to the Oregon Coast in the United States. There is truly no better way to spend your time here other than to book yourself into a cozy beachfront lodging that will take care of all your needs while you spend your days traversing coastal sand dunes, savoring local delights and being captivated by stunning sights from the pinnacle of austere cliff faces.
Whether you’ve come here to check out the historic lighthouses, craft breweries, the famous Oregon Coast Trail or to spot a whale migrating, the Oregon Coast is for those who are willing to overlook the cooler temperatures for the reward of breathtaking scenery in the form of sand dunes, sea stacks and of course the more than 80 state parks dotted along the coast.
But, make no mistake, this 584-kilometer strip of coastline is more for observing a winter storm than for sunbathing. Reaching a high of 19 degrees Celsius during summer, this is a destination that speaks to those who relish the thought of reading a book by the fire or flying a kite.
Itinerary ideas include undertaking a whale watching expedition from Depoe Bay, deep-sea fishing or crabbing, or perhaps renting an all-terrain-vehicle (ATV) to explore the Oregon Dunes. The list of options is endless.
How to get there
For most people having a car is the most reliable mode of transport to explore the Oregon Coast. Highway 101 runs along the coast from Astoria in the north to Brookings in the south. As such, it’s one of the most picturesque drives in the United States.
Portland International Airport is a two-hour drive via Highway 26 and Highway 6 to the coast, however if you choose one of the other airports along the coast, be sure to arrange transportation in advance.
Stephanie Inn & Dining Room, Cannon Beach
Revel in the beauty of Cannon Beach when you choose to stay at Stephanie Inn – a fine expression of understated luxury. Relax by the fireplace, stroll along the beach at sunset or sink into a comfy armchair with a complimentary glass of wine. With a handful of thoughtful gestures, including complimentary freshly-baked treats and house-made cordials by the fire, you’ll discover how luxury can best be paired with intimacy.
Every room comes with a gas fireplace, bathrobes and soaking tub, alongside binoculars and lanterns for night time beach walks. Plus, allow Chef Aaron Bedard to whip up a feast of local flavors accompanied by a classic craft cocktail, or perhaps indulge in an unforgettable gourmet breakfast.

The property’s backyard comprises 101 hectares of unspoiled Oregon coast lands with ancient pathways. It’s the perfect destination in which to curate your own adventure. But, be sure to check out the Pro Sleep Treatment inspired by Indonesian Sea Malay techniques at the world-class spa overlooking Siletz Bay. The entire property is conveniently located just off the Pacific Coast Scenic Byway (Route 101). Across this highway is where you’ll find the Marketplace, where you can enjoy food, art and other hidden local gems.
Headlands Coastal Lodge & Spa, Pacific City
Choose from 33 guest rooms or 18 cottages, each boasting sweeping ocean views from a private balcony or patio. This multi award-winning lodge knows how to spoil its guests with an outdoor hot tub, firepit and in-room dining option. With them, you can even choose to take a surfing lesson or take a ride in a dory boat. A two-hour drive from Portland International Airport, Pacific City is accessible while offering an authentic north coast experience.
Whale Cove Inn, Depoe Bay
Since its inception in December 2007, Whale Cove Inn has become one of the most reputable hotels on the Oregon Coast, thanks to its luxurious suites and enchanting location. It’s a place where you can enjoy stunning views overlooking the bay and even spot a whale spouting. Depoe Bay is considered the whale watching capital in Oregon, with plenty of marine life to be found in the tide pools as well.
Whether you choose a signature or premier suite, you’ll be guaranteed a private deck with a Jacuzzi tub, gas fireplace and a king-size Tempur Pedic sleep system. For culinary enthusiasts, be sure to check out Restaurant Beck headed by award-winning chef Justin Wills. This boutique accommodation makes for a great couple’s retreat with local wineries on your doorstep.
Arch Cape Inn, Cannon Beach
This exquisite bed and breakfast is located near Cannon Beach on the Oregon Coast Trail. The exclusive adults-only coastal chateau features nine rooms, seven of which boast coastal views. It’s designed for singles, couples and groups in mind who are seeking an elevated retreat from the hustle and bustle of Cannon Beach.
The European setting pairs well with morning strolls along the beach, a complimentary gourmet breakfast overlooking the kitchen gardens or a fire on the beach in the evening as part of the romantic kit. The delicate fog in the mornings and views of the ancient volcanic mountain range are reasons enough to stay at this opulent bed and breakfast. Plus, the antique French furniture is not only incredibly cozy, but will have you feeling like royalty in no time.
Tu Tu’ Tun Lodge, Gold Beach
Nestled on the banks of Oregon’s Rogue River near Gold Beach, Tu Tu’ Tun Lodge has been operating since the 1970s. Here, there are plenty of opportunities – golfing, hiking and fishing – to immerse yourself in this natural setting, with "Do Nothing" included on the menu. While there are two suites above the Main Lodge, the fully furnished Houses offer a more spacious and luxurious experience in which to unwind. The craftsmanship is particularly noteworthy, as are the efforts to bring the surrounding nature inside.
Channel House, Depoe Bay
This adults-only, multi award-winning hotel prides itself on offering a Pacific-facing private deck with a spa tub, not to mention cozy interiors equipped with a gas fireplace. And, those who care for the finer details are sure to appreciate the premium bath products. Make your stay even more memorable with a wine or Champagne package, or an in-room massage. Channel House is also an ideal destination for a whale watching adventure and must-see landmarks, including the Devil’s Punchbowl – a natural rock formation shaped with a punch bowl.
Cannery Pier Hotel & Spa, Astoria
Uniquely situated beside the Columbia River in the western-most city of Oregon, Astoria, Cannery Pier Hotel & Spa rests on 500 piers with each room boasting a private balcony with unobstructed river views. To the right is the Astoria–Megler Bridge that connects Oregon with Washington. The hotel offers a complimentary shuttle service in the evenings for those looking to wine and dine in downtown Astoria. The fact that this comes in the form of a 1952 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud hints at the hotel’s two-fold function as both a hotel and a museum. On the second floor is where you can explore the local history after your complimentary breakfast and before you soak in the surrounding natural beauty.
Astoria isn’t just 40 kilometers from one of the most stunning beaches in the world – Cannon Beach – but it’s also home to plenty of waterfalls and hiking trails. Between May and August is arguably the best time to visit, or from October to March for a less crowded experience.
