How the spectacular Crown Sydney, One Barangaroo will become a global icon
Described as being "almost impossible" to create, Crown Sydney, One Barangaroo is set to become a magical reality with construction due to complete by Christmas 2020.
Boasting panoramic harbour views, London architecture, Manhattan interiors, tropical landscaping and global dining, the exclusive collection of 82 private residences will become a legendary landmark and home to a select few.
The ambitious development houses Australia’s first fully integrated hotel-branded residences marking a new era of luxury living.
Chris Wilkinson, Co-Founder of WilkinsonEyre architecture firm, conceived the groundbreaking building design that took out the 2013 international competition to create the new landmark for Sydney.
Drawing inspirations from nature, the tower emanates from three petals that twist vertically as it rises from the ground plane, making it one of the most innovative and challenging concepts ever proposed.
With little over a year until it’s finally complete, Chris travelled from London to Sydney to view the magnificent building’s progress.
"The building has a very special relationship with the harbour and it’s extremely exciting for me to see the strong sculptural form taking its place in Sydney’s beautiful landscape," Chris says. "For me, this has become a development that is entirely different from any other building in the world.
"This building would not have been possible 10 years ago. We have pushed the boundaries of the latest technology to create something truly of its time and place."
The award-winning architect personally sourced unique materials from Europe, including marble from Carrara, Italy, to feature throughout Crown Sydney, and it’s unlike anything currently available in Australia.
While the private residences are truly envy-inducing, the golden opportunity to live in the iconic building are running out quickly. Below the exclusive residences, of which there aren’t many left, are the 349 hotel rooms of Crown Towers lying below will offer a fresh take on luxury that elevates Sydney’s offerings to new heights.

Following 22 months of vertical construction and work of more than 1,100 talented people, the development stands almost 240 metres above Sydney’s world-renowned harbour. Most recently, the construction team achieved three significant building milestones: installation of two open-air infinity swimming pools, completion of the concrete placement for the podium feature stair and completion of the podium facade.
"Observing how the building twists as it rises and knowing the intricacies that go into making this happen is wondrous," Chris explains. "It means each of our floor plans vary on each level to suit the geometry and adjusted to maximise the potential of views."
As the British architect’s vision comes to life and climbs higher every week, there is no doubt Crown Sydney, One Barangaroo will become an eminent part of the Sydney skyline – much like the Opera House.
"As we advance the interior fit-out of all the unique spaces that are a part of this architectural gem, our excitement for the project continues to grow and we look forward to welcoming all Sydneysiders to experience the property in early 2021," Todd Nisbet of Crown Resorts says.
