Textron Aviation’s latest business jet delivers a bold new level of design

One of the most prominent names in private aviation is Textron Aviation and its Cessna Citation line. For 2021, the aviation company has unveiled the Citation CJ4 Gen2, the next generation of the class-leading Cessna Citation family.

The largest Citation in the light jet segment delivers a host of new improvements including enhanced in-flight comfort levels, revamped stairs and handrails, premium seating options and ambient lighting gracing the entire cabin.

Christi Tannahill, Textron Aviation’s Senior Vice President of Customer Experience, explained that there was a strong focus on elevating passenger comfort on the cabin side to match the already-proven performance of the original Citation CJ4.

"Developments in technology have allowed us to introduce new design elements. A first for Citation light jets are the CoolView skylights and a vanity option, which give our customers the atmosphere of a large aircraft with light jet performance capabilities."

While most companies have struggled with their supply chain during the pandemic, customers of the Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen2 will face no such delays with Textron Aviation now taking orders for immediate delivery.

Inside the new sky office

With elevated comfort and productivity being the cornerstone of the new CJ4 Gen2, the designers focused on the finer details such as redesigned stairs that have a lower point of entry, handrail support and a customisable logo light. The refreshment and galley area both comprise of improved options for storage and an optional high-power outlet accompanied by a pull-out surface for a coffee maker, while extendable stone countertops are also available for a touch of luxury.

The jet’s main cabin area features side-facing seat selections, including a folding single seat, a fixed two-place couch and a folding two-place couch, which offer additional storage capacity for securing belongings during flight.

New lighting can also be found in the pockets, on the side wall and floor, and even in the cup holders. For a more welcoming ambience, the CJ4 Gen2 becomes the first Citation aircraft to be equipped with CoolView lavatory skylights, which provide more natural lighting throughout the lavatory and aft cabin area. There’s also the option to step up to the jet’s Premier Collection design, which offers a completely new lavatory vanity and sink.

Those who like to call the skies their office will benefit from an upgraded wireless cabin management system consisting of an onboard media server with the ability to stream preloaded audio and video files, access XM Satellite Radio and view moving maps. It will also allow passengers to wirelessly control cabin lighting, window shades and temperature from their own mobile devices while productivity is powered by the USB charging ports at each cabin seat.

The CJ4 Gen2 can seat up to 10 passengers alongside a 472-kilogram baggage capacity.

Performance flying

The Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen2 features a best-in-class IFR range of 1,926 nautical miles (3,567 kilometres) with a maximum cruise speed of 451 knots. These credentials mean the jet presents superior speed, range and operating economics when compared with larger aircraft.
