Captivating art inspired by Rolls-Royce launched in new mesmerising series

Celebrating the creative minds who shape the world around us, Rolls-Royce has launched its Inspiring Greatness series to honour those who rise above expectation and reason.

Just as the luxury British car manufacturer continues to inspire with breathtaking innovation, Rolls-Royce is honouring creatives who push boundaries while highlighting their relentless ambition and achievements.

The aim of the series is to share aspirational stories of individuals, ideas and endeavours, with media artist Refik Anadol being the first featured in the collection.

"For an artist working with technology, when I got the opportunity to work with MUSE, The Rolls-Royce Art Programme, it was one of those rare moments in life," he says. "For me the definition of success is closing the distance between dream to reality."

Refik Anadol

Taking inspiration from science fiction and the future, Anadol explores the concept of what it really means to be human in the 21st century using art to capture specific moments, as demonstrated in his recent digital artwork ‘Art of Perfection: Data Painting’.

The media artist created unique digital paintings derived from data related to the hue of every Rolls-Royce made at the home of the British manufacturer over the past decade.

"As humans we can find solutions to anything in life." – Refik Anadol

The artwork, which was debuted at The Peninsula Beverly Hills in the US earlier this year, used the colour data combined with information generated by the robotic movement required to apply the surface finish to each bespoke commission.

"It gives me great pleasure to hear from Refik Anadol regarding his captivating interpretation of the paint colours derived at the Home of Rolls-Royce in Goodwood, England, over the past 10 years," Rolls-Royce Motor Cars CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös says. "Now, more so than ever, as the Surface Finish Centre rests amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Anadol’s artwork allows me to reflect on the great things that have come from our Global Centre of Luxury Manufacturing Excellence, whilst we focus our attention on many inspiring things to come in the future."

Inspiring greatness is a mission close to the heart of Rolls-Royce. From the 2,000 skilled men and women hand-building the pinnacle of utter luxury to engaging with valued clients across the globe, the breathtaking motorcars have evoked pure pleasure and magnificent awe since 1904.

"When I visited the factory, I witnessed that invisible world of perfection, humanly perfect, not just machine perfect, an incredible amount of ideation, technology, and the feelings embedded into the art of perfection – that was pure inspiration," Anadol says. "My work is completely human centric. My work is all about human emotions and feeling connected with the environment that we inhabit."

Much like the Turkish artist’s passions in showcasing human life, Rolls-Royce’s exceptional success plays its own part in celebrating the art of people with each handmade motor car.

As coronavirus continues to sweep the globe with more than three million confirmed cases, Anadol embraces his creativity to further understand the world around us.

"I think being positive, an optimist, is very important for the times we are [living in] right now," the artist explains. "As humans we can find solutions to anything in life."
