Neil McArthur
As a leading global design and consultancy firm for natural and built assets, Neil McArthur believes “client centricity” is core to everything Arcadis does.
Arcadis is a people business. Therefore, integrity, collaboration, customer focus, and sustainability are all a part of its operational DNA. "Our culture is very important and that’s driven by our values," says the company’s CEO, Neil McArthur. "Integrity is our license to operate; it is our number one core value. Collaboration is making sure that we are entrepreneurial and that we reach out to one another to bring the very best of Arcadis to our clients. We want to be focused on the right customers and to be making sure they are central in our thinking. Then we want to own the responsibility of helping the world endure by bringing sustainable thinking into everything that we do."
The history of Arcadis can be traced back to 1739 when Hyder Consulting — a company it eventually acquired in 2014 — was founded. Its organic roots, however, were in 1888 when it was established as the Association for Wasteland Redevelopment in the Netherlands.
Today, after many significant acquisitions, Arcadis has grown to become a globally recognised company in the design and consultancy space, with a presence in 70 countries around the world.
It applies its deep market sector insights and collective design, consultancy, engineering, project, and management services to deliver exceptional and sustainable results for its clients. Arcadis works predominately across 4 business lines: infrastructure, water, environment, and buildings.
Neil joined the executive board of Arcadis in September 2011, and in January 2012 it was announced that he would succeed Harrie Noy as Chairman and CEO. "Harrie had been with the company for something like 37 years, 18 of those were on the executive board and for 12 he was CEO," Neil notes. "He built a fantastic foundation for Arcadis and my intention is to keep driving that success for the company."
