A Cambodian brewery goes global: Khieu Sarvorneat

Hanuman Beverages, a rising Cambodian brewery, is gaining momentum both domestically and internationally in the alcoholic beverage industry. After a year at the helm, CEO Khieu Sarvorneat reflects on the company’s vision and bold aspirations for the future.

Hanuman Beverages is at the forefront of Cambodia’s rapidly growing beer industry. Leveraging the country’s economic growth and a rising demand for premium, locally produced beers, the company has earned recognition for signature products, like Hanuman Premium Lager and Hanuman Black, which have captured hearts locally and abroad.

According to research by Astute Analytica, the Cambodian beer market is estimated to double between 2023 and 2032, rising from US$1.1 billion to US$2.2 billion respectively.

Spotting this opportunity, Hanuman Beverages was founded by local Cambodians, with approximately US$160 million in funding to construct its cutting-edge brewery in Kandal province, about one hour west of Phnom Penh.

Since launching in September 2021, Hanuman Beverages has become known for its array of quality products, including Hanuman Premium Lager and Hanuman Black, which are already widely available.

Building on its successful entry into markets like South Korea and Australia, Hanuman is now targeting the Philippines, the United States, Thailand, Vietnam and China. This ambitious drive reflects its dedication to showcasing a new generation of quality Cambodian beverages on the global stage.

The appointment of CEO Khieu Sarvorneat in 2023 has significantly accelerated Hanuman Beverages’ growth trajectory. With extensive experience in Cambodian industries, particularly in the food, beverage and real estate sectors, Sarvorneat brings invaluable leadership to the company.

"Local consumers are increasingly drawn to locally beers, driven by a growing appreciation for unique, high-quality products and a deep sense of national pride," he tells The CEO Magazine.

"The potential for market expansion is immense, offering abundant opportunities to innovate and address evolving consumer demands.

A thirst for success

This commitment to quality has attracted global recognition, as Hanuman Premium Lager and Hanuman Black were both awarded Gold Medals at the prestigious Monde Selection in 2024, a remarkable achievement for a relatively new company. Yet Sarvorneat views success more holistically.

"We do not view success from only our products. Success for Hanuman must be from the company as a whole," he says.
