Duncan McPherson talks about 2Construct’s commitment creating better built environments and delivering best practice quality, time, and cost-effectiveness.
Construction is a vibrant industry; it is cyclical and goes through both good and bad times. Victorian business 2Construct has adapted well to the inescapable market fluctuations and has maintained a steady flow of work in the building, commercial, industrial, and civil sectors for more than 10 years.
Managing Director Duncan McPherson OAM says the business has had to be flexible to survive. "We have three niche areas: our institutional and building work; our civic space work, which is the large-scale open-space public projects; and our civil projects where we concentrate on building pavements and specific land at the port and container-handling areas in Melbourne," he explains. "We have a broad range of capabilities. Flexibility has enabled us to succeed. When one area of the business is quieter, another area of the business tends to move along quite nicely, and it's the dream that all three areas of the business are booming at once."
Duncan founded 2Construct alongside fellow builder Peter Rahilly in 2004, who today holds the position of construction director. Together they have built a successful operation, thanks largely to a loyal repeat customer base and to the relationships they had developed prior to the commencement of the business. 2Construct this financial year is on track to record a turnover of approximately $80 million and currently employs 70 people full time.
