Klaus-Dieter Scheurle

Klaus-Dieter Scheurle discusses how DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH has been ensuring safety and efficiency in German airspace for more than 20 years.

Founded in 1993 to replace the Federal Administration of Air Navigation Services, DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH–or DFS as it is more commonly known–is a state-owned company under private law. DFS is internationally recognised as an industry leader in the field of air-navigation services. The company operates at 16 international airports throughout Germany, and controls civil and military air traffic across the country.

Klaus-Dieter Scheurle was named CEO of DFS in January 2013, after serving as chairman of the company’s supervisory board since 2010. Before DFS, Klaus-Dieter held a range of executive positions in government and the corporate sector.

Serving at the former Ministry for Postal Services and Telecommunications, Klaus-Dieter was heavily involved in the successful privatisation of the German postal service.

As the president of the regulatory authority, he was instrumental in the creation of a functioning telecommunications market. He then made the switch to investment banking as the managing director of Credit Suisse Securities (Europe) Limited in 2001, before becoming permanent state secretary at the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building, and Urban Development in Germany in 2009.
