Musk wants 10,000 people for jobs
Tesla CEO Elon Musk says more than 10,000 jobs are on offer at the company's soon-to-be-completed vehicle manufacturing factory in the US.

Gigafactory Texas (also known as Tesla Gigafactory 5 or Giga Texas) is under construction near Austin, Texas, with it scheduled to be up and running towards the end of this year. The 850-hectare site is planned to be the main production facility for the Tesla Cybertruck and the Tesla Semi. It will also produce Model 3 and Model Y cars.
Tesla had told local officials that the factory would bring 5,000 "middle-skill" jobs with positions that pay solid wages without requiring substantial higher education.
Musk 24 hours earlier had said that SpaceX, with a launch facility in Brownsville, Texas, and a rocket testing facility in McGregor, Texas, would need several thousand more workers.

Musk tweeted the jobs bonanza only hours before US President Joe Biden unveiled his US$2 trillion "once-in-a-generation" investment in infrastructure in the US, promising his initiatives would create the "strongest, most resilient, innovative economy in the world".
Speaking at a carpenter training centre outside of Pittsburgh, where he launched his election campaign two years ago, Biden elaborated on his campaign pledge to "rebuild the backbone of America".
The President will call for a US$620 billion investment in transportation infrastructure, including the modernisation of 20,000 miles of highways and roads; US$650 billion to ramp up broadband access, replace all the nation’s lead pipes and build affordable housing; US$400 billion to invest in home and community-based care for seniors and people with disabilities; and US$580 billion into manufacturing and research and development, with a focus on sectors like clean energy.
Biden said tax incentives should allow "all Americans to afford clean electric vehicles" and workers will be able to "seize amazing opportunities in a clean energy future".
He proposes to cover the US$2 trillion by reforming the corporate tax code to stop corporations from profit shifting to tax havens. He specifically mentioned Amazon, the third-biggest company in the world by revenue behind Walmart and China Petroleum & Chemical.
The Made in America tax plan aims to make corporations pay their fair share in taxes and encourage job creation at home. A recent study found that 91 Fortune 500 companies paid US$0 in federal taxes on US income in 2018. Another study found that the average corporation paid just eight per cent in taxes.
