Empowering female executives
Companies that focus on empowering female executives experience greater business success. Research shows investing in women and girls can lead to increases in productivity, organisational effectiveness, return on investment, and higher consumer satisfaction. The Women and Work Commission in the UK found that unleashing women’s full potential could be worth £23 billion a year to the economy.
In Australia last year, women made up nearly half of the workforce; however, only 14.2 per cent of chair positions and 15.4 per cent of CEO roles were held by women, and the full-time average hourly earnings for women were 13.9 per cent less than men’s full-time average hourly earnings. Never has there been a time more crucial for women to arm themselves with the tools to rightfully take their place in senior executive and board roles to drive our economy forward.
While this is a complex issue and the gaps in gender equality play a massive role in why women aren’t in higher positions of power, a fear of failure, lack of confidence, and feeling inferior are also key reasons for women not leaning into their career.
Here are five ways in which female senior executives can be magnetically empowered in the workplace.
1. Be visual
As a personal branding expert, I can’t stress enough how important it is to be visual. Be brave and get yourself out there. Invest some time in your personal brand, and create a consistent presence online. Tap into social media and use LinkedIn and Facebook to engage with your audiences, potential employees, staff members, and clients.
Building a compelling, magnetic personal brand from mindset to style helps you attract your perfect clients. The more intriguing your magnetic personal brand is, the more likely you are to capture the imagination of high-quality people and the more likely you are to get more phone calls.
As the well-known saying goes, first impressions count.
2. Showcase what makes you unique
Don’t follow the pack and become a sheep in the workplace. Stop dressing accordingly. Ditch those boring work outfits that make you feel like you’re attending a funeral. Start showing some personality and make yourself stand out from the pack. Allowing the real magnetic version of yourself to be seen is liberating.
3. Be visible
From a young age, girls are often encouraged to blend in, be humble, and not show off too much. I’m on a one-woman mission to get women to shine and shine bright, and break through those barriers we are taught in our childhood.
